ABOUT US
The Rotary Club of Lavington Jioni (RCLJ), was chartered by Rotary Club of Nairobi Lavington in November 2018, has quickly become a rock star in the Kilimani and Lavington neighborhoods! Starting as a spin-off from the Nairobi Lavington Club under Rotary District 9212, RCLJ welcomed its first members in February 2019. Fast forward to 2024, and this vibrant club has skyrocketed from 33 to 61 members. It’s not just about the numbers—RCLJ’s service projects have made a powerful splash in the community, showing how much impact a dedicated group of people can make!
One of RCLJ’s initial projects is The Cheryl’s Children Project, which supports vulnerable children by providing essential resources for their education, health, and welfare. This initiative aims to uplift children from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering them a brighter future.
The Mukuru Sinai Maternal Health Care Project is another significant initiative. In collaboration with RC Edina Morningside Minnesota, USA, we were awarded a Global Grant worth US$ 75,782 in 2020. This grant enabled us to equip CANA Hospital in Mukuru Sinai to provide comprehensive emergency obstetric care to the community, ultimately saving lives. We also trained Community Health Promoters to raise awareness of the hospital’s services and provided them with tablets for data collection.
RCLJ has also been instrumental in organizing Medical Camps, which bring healthcare services directly to those in need. These camps offer free medical consultations, treatments, and medications to hundreds of individuals who might not otherwise have access to medical care, alleviating suffering and fostering a sense of community support.
The club’s dedication to service has been recognized with several awards and accolades from District 9212 and Rotary International. These honors are a testament to the club’s impactful projects and the dedication of its members.
Moreover, RCLJ is proud to have 23 Paul Harris Fellows (PHFs). The Paul Harris Fellow recognition is one of the highest honors in Rotary, awarded to members who have made substantial contributions to the Rotary Foundation. The presence of numerous PHFs within RCLJ underscores the club’s strong commitment to philanthropy and service.
Let’s not forget our beloved title as the “most vibrant club.” This title beautifully reflects the importance we place on our members’ well-being, highlighting how RCLJ nurtures and supports each of us, standing together through both joyful moments and challenging times.
As the Rotary Club of Lavington Jioni looks to the future, it remains steadfast in its mission to make a difference in the community. With a growing membership and a strong foundation of successful projects, the club is well-positioned to continue its legacy of service, fellowship, and positive impact.
